Decathlete Jeff Shuder and Heptathlete Kathleen Costello Hit Their Marks at West Point
Sophomore Jeff Shuder earned a new PR in the Decathlon with a score of 4767. On the second day of his decathlon, Shuder earned a PR in 4 individual events – the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, and javelin. Shuder also met the qualifying standard for the NJCAA Division III nationals in the high jump with his leap of 1.86 meters in the first day of competition.
Freshman Kathleen Costello competed in her first heptathlon, earning a score of 3190 points. On her first day of competition, Costello threw a PR of 7.16 meters in the shot put, broke her own school record in the high jump (1.43 meters), and qualified for the NJCAA Division III national meet in the long jump (4.69 meters).
In the men's long jump, Blake Evans jumped his collegiate best of 6.96 meters, tying for 1st place. Dannie Holland placed 3rd in the long jump with his personal best of 6.86 meters and 1st in the triple jump with a jump of 13.80 meters.
In the women's long jump, Dominique Mitchell and Mackenzie Vickers both jumped 5.21 meters, which is a season best for both women and put them in a 3-way tie for 1st place. Vickers joined Mitchell as she hit the NJCAA Division III national meet standard.
