Suffolk Sweeps the Jumps at USMMA Meet
Nix (HJ)(photo), Assibey-Bonsu (TJ), and Hinds (LJ) all take first place.
Suffolk's freshmen swept the jumps and the 110 hurdles at the USMMA Coach O Invitational. Undefeated for the season, Micah Assibey-Bonsu won the triple jump with a jump of14.33m (47'0.25") and teammate Malik Hinds placed second. Malik also won the men's long jump with a season best of 6.69m (21'11.5"). Cordell Nix won the men's high jump with a personal best of 2.00m (6'6.75"). Connor Langdon placed second. Connor Langdon also won the 110m hurdles in 15.12 seconds for a collegiate PR. Decathlete Jesse Mattera had a big day in the throws, placing third in the javelin with a huge PR of 49.06m (160'11"). For the women, freshman high jumper Bethany Cruz placed third in the high jump with a jump of 1.50m (4'11").
In the 400m race, freshmen Alex Luckoo ran a season-best time of 51.69, qualifying for nationals. The 4x100m relay improved upon their best time, running 43.53. The 4x400m relay improved upon their time as well, finishing 4th with a time of 3:25.90.
