Snowy Season Opener for Suffolk Track & Field
In the snowy season opener for Suffolk Track and Field, 8 athletes hit the NJCAA Division III national meet qualifying standard.
Blake Evans, Dannie Holland, and Galvin Biggs placed first, second, and third in the men's long jump. All three, graduates of Longwood high school, hit the national qualifying standard. Evans jumped 6.68 meters, Holland jumped 6.6 meters, Biggs jumped 6.35 meters, and teammate Majestic Temple jumped 5.9 meters. These marks were personal bests for Holland, Biggs, and Temple.
In the men's pole vault, multi event athlete Jeff Shuder jumped his PR of 3.05 meters.
Multi event athlete Kathleen Costello jumped 1.42 meters in the women's high jump, breaking the school record and qualifying for the national meet. Sophomore Dominique Mitchell jumped 4.72, qualifying her for the national meet in the women's long jump.
In the running events, freshman Ibrahim Abubakar ran a 51.09 in the 400m dash. In the 100 meter dash Ashley Dominguez ran a 13.37 and Tori Thompson ran a 13.39. Danielle Milo ran 2:38.64 in the 800 meters. All four performances qualified these athletes for the nationals.
