Ryleigh Donegan Named National XC Athlete of the Week
The Center Moriches freshman won the CSI Invitational in 20:32.
Ryleigh Donegan is named National XC Athlete of the Week!
The Suffolk CC freshman was named the Women's NJCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
She won her first collegiate 5K XC race at the College of Staten Island Invitational this past weekend in a time of 20:32.4, leading the Suffolk ladies to a first place team title over 12 other colleges. Following Ryleigh for the Sharks were Leana Wiebelt (2nd), Kayla Clements (5th), Menely Genao (7th), Ashlee Rommeney (15th), Stacey Sinkoff (18th), Bridget Reiffert (20th), Kristen Starke (39th), Haley Entenmann (57th), Nora DiMaria (58th), and Theresa DiFilippo (59th). This is the second meet the ladies have won this season (the first being the St. Joseph's College Friends and Alumni Meet).
On the men's side, also at the same invitational, Suffolk freshman Christopher Swenson won his second individual title of the season, taking the 5K race in 17:15.7. Chris also won the 6K St. Joseph's meet the previous week. Following Chris for the Sharks at the Staten Island meet were Ryan Evans (5th), Greg Rachman (18th), and Matt Mintzer (21st).
